Gold Smuggling – TIA 17 accused  brought to the custody of CIB from the department

Kathmandu, 22 July. The 17 accused arrested in the gold smuggling case have been brought into the custody of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Police this evening from the Revenue Investigation Department.


Nepal Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat said that after receiving a letter from the Revenue Investigation Department asking for further missile study and investigation, all the missiles and the accused have been brought to the CIB this evening.


Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ directed the CIB to be entrusted with the investigation. Following his instructions, the necessary procedures were completed and the responsibility of further investigation was handed over to the CIB. In this case, CIB will now start an investigation in the context of financial and organized and international crimes.


On July 3, the department recovered approximately 100 kg of gold, which had been brought in ‘brake shoes’ from in front of the customs office of Tribhuvan International Airport. The said gold is now kept in Taksar branch of Nepal Rastra Bank to ascertain the quantity.
So far, 18 people have been arrested for being involved in the incident, although one person has been released due to illness, 17 are still in custody.


Director General of the department Navraj Dhungana said that one phase of the investigation has been completed by the department and now the CIB has been entrusted with the rest of the investigation.
