FNCCI President, Chandra Dhakal Highlights Thriving Investment Potential in Nepal

Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, August 17, 2023 – President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, took center stage at the China (Yunnan)-Nepal Industrial Cooperation Promotion and Enterprise Matchmaking Meeting, held during the China South Asia Business Forum. Dhakal’s address illuminated Nepal’s growing prominence as an attractive investment destination, bolstered by its abundant natural resources, skilled workforce, market access, and advantageous trade pacts.

In his remarks, President Dhakal spotlighted Nepal’s remarkable attributes as a burgeoning investment hub. Citing its resource-rich landscapes, educated populace, and strategic trade affiliations with neighboring China and India, Dhakal dubbed Nepal a “promising investment destination” poised for sustainable growth.

The President drew parallels between Nepal’s picturesque landscapes and water-rich regions and Yunnan’s geographical resemblance, emphasizing shared potential for economic cooperation. He lauded the fruitful sister city relationship between Kunming and Nepal’s Pokhara, underscoring the promotion of cultural exchanges, tourism, and joint research and development efforts.

Dhakal celebrated the enhanced connectivity through direct air routes, linking Kathmandu and Kunming, and envisioned the prospect of direct flights between Pokhara and Kunming. He underscored China’s increasing interest in Nepali tourism, exemplified by Sichuan Airlines’ inaugural flight to Pokhara during the Chinese “Dragon Boat Festival.”

The FNCCI President elucidated an array of investment opportunities spanning various sectors. Energy, tourism infrastructure, transportation, trade facilitation, SMEs, ICT, and agriculture featured prominently in his discourse. Dhakal accentuated Nepal’s substantial progress in reducing poverty and fostering a burgeoning middle-class populace over the past three decades.

President Dhakal concluded his address by advocating for strengthened bilateral economic relations between Yunnan and Nepal, ushering in a new era of prosperous business and government connections. He radiated optimism for heightened investments, thriving tourism, flourishing trade, and robust industrial partnerships.

The President extended a warm invitation to all attendees to explore Nepal’s vibrant culture and investment prospects at the Nepal Country Pavilion during the China South Asia Expo. He extended his best wishes for a productive matchmaking meeting, encouraging active participation to catalyze transformative project collaborations.

The event attracted distinguished leaders, government officials, business executives, and media representatives from China, Nepal, and various South Asian nations, reflecting the shared enthusiasm for fostering cross-border cooperation and unleashing the untapped potential of Nepal’s investment landscape.
